HK L16a2

the L16a2 is the latest assault rifle of the British Royal Army, it's design began in late 2014 when the British Army instituted its "Small arms for the 21st century" or "SA21" program, Enfield and H&K were cooperatively contracted to design the new rifle. Together they developed a modern, yet more conventional rifle based on their earlier L85 and M27 rifles. The weapon first entered service in October of 2016 as the L16a1, with its adoption being announced with King Charles ceremonially test-firing the rifle at a British Army firing range. Initial reports on the weapon's performance were not good, with even the king's son Prince Harry stating the rifle was "prone to jams and overheating". So in 2022 Enfield and H&K were again contracted to improve the rifle, the newer model, designated the L16a2, featured numerous reliability improvements similar to those H&K made for the US-Army issue M8a1 rifle, and first entered service early in the year 2023. The budget constraints caused by adopting and improving a new rifle system have forced a hold on the British Army's updating of optical equipment, so many L16 rifles can be found using the aged SUSAT scope system.

In all seriousness I got bored working on a hack of an FN HAM-R and saw a concept for an M4/L85 hybrid, I decided I'd try and build one out of an HK416 and give it a semi-BlackOps 2 themed backstory.
