combat whilst trying to break down allied defences prior to a full on trench attack. They were'nt greatly successful though and the British killed them in droves as they came across no man's land. Called Strosstruppen, they had special privelages within the German army and were considered brave and well trained fighters. Look up Strosstruppen on the internet for more details. They wore brown or green uniforms depending where they were stationed and the year as German uniforms varied between 1914 and 1918. They were unusual in wearing camo helmets in WW1.
