This is based on a \'what if\' situation. What if there was some form of Umbrella Co. during WW2 while the events of CoD Zombies were taking place? How did the nazi zombies get to the Hive? What more secrets does Umbrella co. have besides the T-Virus? Did Wescker acted alone on the outbreaks? All these questions will be answered when you play RE: NZ and unsolve the mistery. Note: To understand the background story you need to know the background stories of resident evil and call of duty nazi zombies. Since its a \'what if situation\' some facts about RE bg story might not me accurate as events of the past change them.
