developed in the mid 23rd Century to replace the aging Long-Bow class ships and as a way to deliver torpedoes against larger surface vessels without risking losing ships of heavier displacement. They are relatively fast vessels with formidable striking power and are essentially offensive in character. These ships perform primarily in a Battle Force role and are equipped with high-yield photon torpedoes and fast reload tubes in addition to standard phasers giving them additional strike capability. The primary mission of torpedo cruiser is to attack enemy capital ships. Their high speed, and torpedo armaments makes them most suitable for attacks against larger and slower enemy vessels. Its main defensive power lies in its speed, maneuverability and ability to lay mines.
