The transwarp design was flawed and even after numerous attempts between 2285 and 2287 to iron out those flaws transwarp never materialised, and by 2290 the prototype was refitted with a conventional warp engine system and was put under the command of Hikaru Sulu, former helmsman of the Enterprise and Enterprise-A. During the Subsequent years this failure soon proved to be a huge success, and between the 2290’s and the 2380’s the Excelsior Class has been one of the greatest designs fielded by the Federation Starfleet. With upgrades over the decades this class of vessel has become the back bone and work horse of the fleet. Seen in many roles throughout the Federation from diplomacy to exploration to combat duties the Excelsior Class is a proud accomplishment.
